All About the Prestigious 2024 Emmy Awards
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards was broadcast on Fox on 15 January 2024 with 26 Emmy Awards to honor the artists. The grand ceremony was hosted by Anthony Anderson and produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment. The program hosted on Monday has made history as the most diverse Emmy Awards by awarding several celebrities of color like Ali Wong, Steven Yeun, Ayo Edibiri, and Niecy Nash.
The ceremony also showcased the reunions of last century’s hits such as the original cast of “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Martin”, Cheers”, and of course “All in the Family”. Moving on to the awards, HBO had a blockbuster season, bagging a total of 31 awards for different categories; notably their “Succession” receiving six wins! Followed by Netflix which ended up with 22 wins, all thanks to “Beef” as it thrived in the limited series category with 8 wins. Not to forget “The Bear” reached its height of fame with six awards with an addition of four more awards at the Creative Arts Emmys.
The Lowest Audience Recorded This Year: 4.3 Million Views:
When records are unleashed you can notice that at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 Emmys broadcasted on ABC, the count was at 6.1 million viewers due to criteria like no-in-person viewers and remote nominees.
However, the show struck back the next year with 7.4 million viewers. In 2020 the numbers began to drop. In the history of this extravagant ceremony, the most views obtained was 21.8 million which the coming ones are unlikely to beat. Unfortunately, this year the view count dropped to an unexpected 25% from the previous year, standing at 4.3 million views.
Reviews from Critiques:
Although the view count for this year’s Emmy Awards didn’t shine through, the show and the host Anderson received countless positive reviews, while negative ones were minor.
Several reports like Variety praised it as “delightful”, and The Hollywood Reporter coined it as “polish, Proficiency, and emotion.” Unfortunately, all these positive reviews from various sources couldn’t stop the view count from dropping to a very disappointing low.
Possible Issues For The Disappointing Outcome:
The ceremony this year had to go through several obstacles before getting into action. The Emmys this year was delayed four months, rescheduling from September to January all due to the Hollywood writers and actor strikes.
Not only that, but the program also had to compete against the NFL playoff game along with the coverage of the Iowa caucuses during the presidential campaign. As a result, the viewers were less than half of what the Golden Globes received just eight days earlier while broadcasted on CBS.
