Forerunner smartwatches, Garmin is releasing Public Beta Version 17.18, which brings a number of new features and improvements.

The Forerunner 255 and 955 models from 2022 as well as the Forerunner 265 and 965 models from this year, will support the patch. Gadgets & Wearables noted that the addition of nap tracking is the primary update. As the name implies, this feature enables smartwatches to record your sleeping patterns during the day. It will also suggest how long you should sleep for and when would be the best time to take a little nap.

The company claims that naps can improve your general mood and even be good for your health. The Venu 3 was the first device to use this feature. It has since spread to other lines, such as the Fenix 7 series. The Forerunners did not come with Sleep Coach, which would have provided you with “individualized sleep advice,” unlike the Venu 3.

Just for your eyes

Subsequently, owners of a Forerunner 265 or 965 will be able to switch on Red Shift mode, which will increase the amount of red in the watch face. Device blue light can interfere with your sleep and cause visual problems at night. Conversely, red light is kinder to the eyes. The Forerunner 255 and 955 do not have the AMOLED screens required to support this feature; hence they will not be able to use it.

A major upgrade that was just released focused on body battery. According to Gadgets & Wearables, the gadget will demonstrate how your body’s energy levels are affected by “individual daily events” such as stressful situations or times of rest. We’ll color-code everything to make it easier to read.

Inconsequential additions

The remaining beta mostly consists of a few usability-enhancing adjustments to various features. Users can choose to see larger letter sizes on the screen, inline skating has been added as a workout option, and smart alerts will now show integrated photos. According to Android Central, when a user is “approaching a turn, hill, or water station” on their route, the Up Ahead tool will notify them verbally.

To participate in the beta testing, one must first sign up for the Garmin Beta Software program. We have a detailed guide that explains the procedure. Basically, to enter the gadget into the program, you must first log into your Garmin Connect account. Once inside, navigate to the Settings menu on your Forerunner and select the System section. Select Check for Updates after selecting Software Update. It should be there, waiting for you, the beta.
